How PASC reviews and selects Pakistan’s submission.
The process is designed to be independent, confidential, conflict-aware, and compliant with Academy rules.
Annual call
PASC issues a public call for submissions following publication of the Academy’s rules for the relevant awards cycle or at another appropriate time determined by the Chairperson.
Eligibility review
PASC may conduct a preliminary eligibility review based on Academy rules before distributing films to committee members. The Academy retains final authority on eligibility.
Viewing
Committee members are expected to view all eligible submitted films before voting, except for films from which they are recused.
Evaluation
Films are evaluated holistically according to artistic, cinematic, and cultural merit, while allowing committee members to exercise independent professional judgment.
Voting
Each eligible, non-recused voting member submits a ranked list. Votes are tabulated using a points-based ranked voting method. A minimum of five eligible, non-recused voting members must cast valid votes for the selection to be valid, unless the Academy provides alternative written guidance.
Final selection
PASC selects one film as Pakistan’s official submission to the Academy for the International Feature Film Award, subject to Academy eligibility review and confirmation.
